Last week I had the opportunity to speak with a real thought-leader in online bingo. Jeremy Collis is a former managing director of Littlewoods Gaming who last year launched BigHeartBingo.com.

Has Parlay Entertainment been bought? Not yet. But if the acquisition does proceed, no changes in management, operations or head-office location are being considered. It will be business as usual here at Parlay. I mean, why change a good thing?

Without a doubt, bingo is one of the world's most popular games. It's been played in various forms for centuries from South America to South Africa, Portugal to Poland, and seemingly everywhere in between. So it's no wonder that players from around the globe are flocking to the game online.

Leave it to Paddy Power to bring controversy to bingo. Never one to walk the line, the leading Irish bookie has found itself in hot water thanks to an ad for its new online bingo game, powered by Parlay Entertainment. The London Underground and Dublin bus and rail are among several agencies who have censored the offending advert.

Entitled "Breast Feeding Man", the ad pictures a man exposing his nipple to a baby. It includes a tagline that asks, "Where have all the women gone?"

In today's hyper-competitive world of online bingo marketing, how can one e-bingo site stand apart from the rest? The answer, it seems, is in the stars. But don't look to the sky for inspiration; we refer to stars of the celebrity, not celestial, variety.

Online bingo can't stay out of the headlines these days. Recently, 888 Holdings made news with the purchase of bingo operator Globalcom for a massive $32.4 million. Why all the fuss? It's because casino, sportsbook and poker operators are beginning to see that bingo means big business.

Jackpot fever! It’s the only way to describe last year’s astounding growth of online bingo prizes. In 2006 alone, the size and frequency of big bingo jackpots grew exponentially industry-wide. These days, it’s not uncommon to see progressive jackpots regularly paying out £30-60,000, with some prizes topping one hundred grand. Such prizes were unheard of just a few years ago.

As interest in online bingo continues to grow, so have the number of bingo software providers. With pundits predicting that bingo will soon become as popular as poker, it's no wonder that software developers are eager to jump onto the bingo bandwagon.
